Dr. Dženita Šiljak, a research associate at the Social Science Research Center, took part in the first Management Committee meeting of the COST Action project, “Linking Euroscepticism and Populism: Causes and Consequences (EUPopLink),” held on October 22, 2024, in Brussels, Belgium.
COST Actions are research networks that encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and are open to all scientific and technological fields. Participants, including researchers from academia, SMEs, public institutions, and various organizations, engage in these initiatives over four-year periods. COST Actions primarily focus on building networks to advance knowledge, drive innovation, and support participants in securing additional funding. These projects also emphasize inclusiveness, gender equality, and providing opportunities for early-career researchers.
The EUPopLink project aims to examine the interplay between euroscepticism and populism through comparative, innovative, and longitudinal studies, assessing the causes and effects of this relationship across the EU. It also intends to provide policy recommendations to help mitigate negative impacts during crises. The research is structured into four working groups focused on conceptualization, data collection, linkage studies, and outreach.
Dr. Šiljak previously contributed to the Horizon2020 project “POPREBEL,” which analyzed the economic implications of populist policies.
